We must recognise China’s growing power and leverage it to our advantage. We need to take swift steps, whether regarding the Anaklia Port or the influx of Chinese investments on a mutually beneficial basis,” stated former MP Beka Natsvlishvili while evaluating U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to China.
Speaking on PalitraNews’ program Resume about the objectives of Trump’s visit, Natsvlishvili noted that China’s global role has become so significant that even the United States cannot afford to bypass it.
“Let’s look at the two superpowers: the U.S. and China. We see that China is currently experiencing a far more successful economic period than the U.S. The stated goal of Trump’s visit is for these two superpowers—who underpin the global economy, the U.S. in terms of finance and China in terms of production—to cooperate, despite the fact that they view each other as systemic rivals. If we examine the strategic security documents of the current Trump administration, China is identified as the primary adversary. One might ask why he would visit his ‘primary adversary’ directly at their palace, but China’s role in the world today is so pivotal that even the U.S. could not ignore it.
We saw that before Trump’s arrival, China was visited by the Prime Minister of Canada (who is dissatisfied with America), the British Prime Minister, and the leaders of virtually every major economy. This is because everyone realises China’s importance for the future of the world. I believe China will become the defining force of the new world order that is currently taking shape. It is clear that the era of unilateral U.S. leadership has ended; even those who are staunchly pro-American realise this. Since China is becoming the architect of the global order, everyone believes that the ‘rules of the game’ must be negotiated with them today,” Natsvlishvili stated.
